Booker T Jones has a new album out, "Potato Hole," and from what Jim Fusilli writes in today's WSJ, I'm really looking forward to it. Fusilli includes an audio cut, "Pound It Out." This is a guy (Booker T. Jones, not Jim Fusilli) who recorded Green Onions with the M.G.'s while he was on break from his sophomore year in high school! The new CD features him, a band called the Drive-By Truckers (or "DBT's") and a whole lot of Neil Young.
And here, we have Booker T with the DBT's in full rain dog mode. Sort of Booker T meets Tom Waits meets Grateful Dead jam music. Weird, but not uninteresting:
This song was on Tom's 1999 album "Mule Variations." He said this song was a reference to his own stubbornness. "I didn't marry a man," his wife Kathleen Brennan says. "I married a mule."
It feels weird writing more than 140 characters. M.
